Yarn Stash Busting Blanket

…now trying saying that several times really fast!

I have decided that it is about time that I endeavour to utilise all my odds and ends in my ever expanding yarn stash. Then I can pave the way to even more new shiny yarn! (Of course!) I have a lot of varying colours and weights of yarn, but not enough of any one colour or type to create something solid or cohesive like a nice cardigan or something along those lines. Thus, I figured, the infamous granny square blanket to the rescue!

As you can see, I have chosen to go with the simple solid granny square or the treble square. I’m not too sure of it’s official title, but I think it’s a really adorable little square. They are very easy to hook, really only consisting of treble crochet stitches and they work up very fast. I have essentially just gathered up all my yarn, left over from various finished crochet kits and colour packs of yarn, and started to hook these squares. With the bigger skeins, I have turned them into yarn cakes, as I absolutely adore a good yarn cake, and hooked the squares with them.

I think it’s a really nice project to have on the go as when I’m short of time or engrossed in a good tv show, I can just hook these squares very easily. My intention is to make my way through my remaining yarn, producing these little squares and then using some white, join them all together to form a really adorable, quite bespoke granny square blanket. Hopefully, once I have all the colours and the ratios of each colour I will be able to begin formulating a plan or at least a visualisation of where they are all going to sit in relation to each other to make it aesthetically pleasing. I think I will also have to invest in some white yarn to border the squares and join them together, so there is at least one element uniting them all.

This granny square blanket was the best idea I had to bust through my yarn stash but I’d love to hear and see all of your lovely ideas of how you all combat the inevitable ever growing yarn stash!

Happy Crafting Everyone!
