The Coronation Crochet Along – Week One

I know, I know…I am so very late to the party. I’ve lost count of how many weeks behind I am now…too many! But, alas, I have finally made a start on Week One. (Hooray!)

The first thing that struck me about this pattern was that it requires you to turn your work after each round of the granny square. I must admit, I had never made a granny square where you turn your work in this way. It has made the stitches look very neat and tidy but it is not something I have ever seen before in a pattern. I am rather happy with how it is looking so far. (Also, shout-out to my little Pusheen stitch marker!)

Week One

Now, shall we talk about those little jewels. These are basically the first round of a granny square and that’s it. There are 96 to make in total, across four different colours. So, above all else, there’s definitely going to be a lot of ends that need weaving in!

Look at all those ends!!

I thought I would be able to smash them out whilst watching something on Netflix but in all honesty, I am really struggling my way through them…96 is SO many! I know how good it will look when I get to that part of the blanket (because I have seen so many lovely ones already, one of the benefits of being so far behind!) but they’re just so hard to find the motivation to do. I told myself to make them all before moving onto Week Two or I’ll keep putting them off, but I am just thinking about whether I will let myself move into Week Two for a little change of pace and then go back to the little jewels, energised and raring to go!

As you can see, I am already trying to justify it, so I think we all know which way this is going to go!
